1. Acceptance of Terms
By using Chesstrophy, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. About Chesstrophy
Chesstrophy is a chess training web app that helps users study openings, practice training courses, use drills and explorer features, and personalize their training.
3. Accounts
You sign in using Google. You are responsible for keeping your account secure and for activity under your account.
Please provide accurate information and do not share your account in a way that abuses the service or subscription limits.
You must notify us if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.
4. Optional Game Imports
You may choose to provide your own Chess.com or Lichess username. Chesstrophy may use the public games associated with your username to personalize your training.
Game import is optional. You can use Chesstrophy without connecting a Chess.com or Lichess username.
The onboarding import request is intended to be completed only once per account.
You are responsible for ensuring that you only provide your own username and that your use of the related public game data follows the rules of the applicable platform.
Chesstrophy does not control Chess.com or Lichess and cannot guarantee that imported game data will always be available, complete, or accurate.
5. Your Content and Training Data
You may provide information to Chesstrophy, including usernames, preferences, training activity, and other content needed to use the service.
You keep ownership of content you provide. You give Chesstrophy permission to use that content as needed to operate, personalize, secure, maintain, and improve the service.
You are responsible for content you submit and must not submit anything unlawful, abusive, or that violates another person’s rights.
6. Subscriptions, Trials, Billing, and Cancellation
Some Chesstrophy features may require a paid subscription. We may offer monthly or yearly plans, free trials, discounts, and coupons.
Payments are processed by Stripe. Your subscription may renew automatically unless you cancel before the next billing date.
You can cancel your subscription through the Stripe customer portal or another cancellation method we make available in the app. After cancellation, access to paid features will continue until the end of the current paid period unless stated otherwise.
If a trial, discount, or coupon is offered, its terms may depend on the offer shown at checkout. We may change prices or subscription features in the future, with notice where required by law.
7. Refunds
Payments are generally non-refundable unless required by law or unless we state otherwise for a specific offer.
If you believe there was a billing error, contact us using the email below.
Nothing in these Terms limits any refund rights required by applicable law.
8. User Responsibilities
You must not:
- Use Chesstrophy unlawfully or in violation of third-party terms.
- Attack, disrupt, overload, or interfere with the service.
- Bypass limits, access controls, or subscription requirements.
- Abuse trials, discounts, coupons, or subscriptions.
- Share accounts abusively.
- Scrape or collect Chesstrophy data excessively.
- Use another person’s account or submit another person’s Chess.com or Lichess username.
- Reverse engineer, copy, resell, or commercially exploit Chesstrophy except as allowed by law or with our written permission.
9. Training Content and Results
Chesstrophy is a learning tool. We do not guarantee chess improvement, rating gains, tournament results, or any particular outcome.
Course, opening, drill, and explorer content may change, be removed, or not be available at all times.
10. Third-Party Services
Chesstrophy relies on third-party services, which may include Google, Stripe, Chess.com, Lichess, analytics providers, and hosting or other service providers.
Their services and policies are separate from Chesstrophy. Chesstrophy is not affiliated with Chess.com, Lichess, Google, or Stripe unless we explicitly say otherwise.
11. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect personal information.
12. Service Changes and Availability
We may update, change, limit, suspend, or remove parts of Chesstrophy at any time.
The service may be interrupted, unavailable, or contain bugs. It may also be affected by third-party services outside our control. We will try to keep Chesstrophy available and reliable, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access.
13. Ending the Service
Chesstrophy may discontinue all or part of the service in the future. If we do, we will try to provide reasonable advance notice when practical.
Where practical, users may be given an opportunity to export or delete their data before a shutdown. Paid subscriptions will be handled according to the billing, cancellation, and refund policy and applicable law.
Chesstrophy is not responsible for losses caused by a service shutdown except where required by law.
14. Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account or access to Chesstrophy for abuse, fraud, non-payment, security concerns, legal reasons, or violation of these Terms.
You may stop using Chesstrophy at any time.
15. Disclaimers
Chesstrophy is provided “as is” and “as available,” to the extent permitted by law. We do not promise that the service will always be secure, accurate, uninterrupted, or free of errors.
16. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by law, Chesstrophy will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, ratings, tournament results, or business opportunities arising from your use of the service.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.
17. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federative Republic of Brazil, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
18. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and provide notice where required.
Your continued use of Chesstrophy after updated Terms take effect means you accept them.
